Beware of Heartburn drugs
Whenever you tend to get some facts, you would like to explore it. Here is one like that. When you use heartburn drugs over a long period of time, your bones may get weaker. Its been noted that people over 50 who took proton pump inhibitors for more than a year had a 44% increased risk of hip fractures. There was also a smaller risk of fractures with H2 blockers. All these drugs work by reducing the stomach acid. At the same time they can reduce the absorption of bone building calcium in the body. A direct effect on bones may also be there due to the consumption of drugs. So whenever you are prescribed heartburn drugs by the doctor, try using the lowest effective dose and taper them off when you can.
